PANIC!!!

I should be asleep, but I'm not. I made some last minute music choices, recorded a sample I needed, and I had a choice between it in English, or it in Japanese...
While honestly, the English version of the line would fit in better given that the surrounding lines are in English, the voice actors just suck so bad compared to the superior Japanese ones, ergo, I couldn't even bring myself to make a copy of the English version even just in case.

Also, I think I may do video work on Underground anyway, this semester.

Also, I think I've finally got a handle on at least semi-watchable encoding for YouTube. The second experiment came out better than the first. It's gonna break my heart to bring this all the way down to YouTube's level. Oh well.

I think I'm gonna put this under "By Another Name Productions" rather than "DaDa Posuer Productions".

Plan C/"Take Care of Yourself"

So close to done, yet so much left to do. I was impeded previously due to my laptop's down time, but now that it is functional again some aspects of the piece are progressing more easily.

Since Tuesday is probably the only time this version of this part of the "Otaku Series" will be screened in HD, I've actually been inviting my cast (even those who are in it so briefly). The piece has undergone several evolutions since its conception, but that's just how art goes, I guess.

I'm also currently experimenting with YouTube in an attempt to find the best way to encode files for their site. So far, I've ended up with blocky trash.

The Current Plan

I think Plan C/(Take Care of Yourself), Fiddle Sticks, Fiddle Sticks (true), and Fiddle Sticks (True^2) will now take up the entirety of the semester. Goddammit, I think I'm gonna regret this.

Underground is going to undergo a medium translation that while the original seed was planned for, Underground was not to see for perhaps another year. Underground will become a comic. As a comic (most probably photo based) I can take as long as I want to make it. This will hopefully give me a fully developed idea, script, and storyboard to work with when I focus on the project next year. I realize that if I rush through both ideas, at best one will come out OK, and the other will suck, terribly. The longer it takes, the better it will be, I hope...

Frustration

Cuts 14-16b, 27, and a portion of the revised ending have been shot. Cut 16c may have to use a different take of cut 16a due to the absence of one of my actoresses being unavailable at the time.

Takes for cut 13 have been done, but I probably only have something useful for Fiddle Sticks, rather than Fiddle Sticks (true) or Fiddle Sticks (true^2).

Cuts 17-26 are in progress. I need to either redraw the needed story boards, or take pictures as a substitute. I need to get my actors together, or something similar. There is a version of Plan C/(Take Care of Yourself) in my head that will require only minimal additional shooting and can be done without in various stages, rather than all at once.

Also, next weeks, visual effects experiments relating to refrencing source material in ways I didn't contemplate before.

Abstraction

How valid is it to abstract a story originally conceived to be narrative and linear? For Plan C (Take care of yourself), the story was to have cuts 14-27, followed by a revised 3-13. This revised version was (is) to further bend a reality already being strained to a breaking point, and break the 4th wall. A self mocking ending.

The priority of the cuts are now
1) 17-26, which can be done at home
2) 13, which is meant to be done in studio, but will be more complex than I imagined.
3) 14-16, which are designed for studio, and easier to shoot, given the proper props.
4) 27, studio shot, very easy.

11-12, 4c-8, and 3-4b are the least important after a fashion, but location shooting is preferred. Failing that, it's been revised to the self-mocking ending.

Madeleine made me realize the how horrifically complex what I want to do truly is. Maybe this project should take up the whole semester? But I want a version of Underground done this semester. It may end up as a trailer or another abstraction, however. The shooting style of Underground is to be simple, its the ideas, symbols, and meanings that are complex. The opposite is true of Fiddle Sticks, the idea is simple, the execution and production is to be complex.

Charles Dodgson on 02/09/1856 wrote in his diary:

Query: when we are dreaming and, as often happens, have a dim consciousness of the fact and try to wake, do we not say and do things which in waking life would be insane? May we not then sometimes define insanity as the inability to distinguish which is waking and which is sleeping life? We often dream without the least suspicion of unreality: 'Sleep hath its own world,' and it is often as lifelike as the other.
