Symbolism

One of the biggest fears I have about Underground (other than it being a total failure) is bashing people over the head with symbolism. How much is too much? I don't want this to be a work that only the informed enjoy, I want it to be enjoyable by people who have never been exposed to what I am referencing. But I do want deeper levels to be there if people actually care to look for them.

The ultimate question with this particular symbol is "to tatoo or not to tatoo"
